I was contacted by the Rotary Club of San Jose North to cover the birthday party of one of their most prestigious members, Sue Beb.
The event was held in The Villages Country Club hall located in southern San Jose.
Taking advantage of the (relatively)low ceilings I bounced my flash off of it in order to have fill flash and create separation between my subject and my background.
Normally I would use a diffused dome on my flash unit but in this case the ceiling provided much softer light by simply pointing the head up.

Fifty-two children live at the Casa Hogar orphanage; and Casa Hogar is at full capacity. The majority of the children have been abandoned by their parents who have gone to work in the United States. They have literally left them behind. It is unknown whether or not they will come back from them. Many children have been picked up from abuse shelters as well…

March 2010- The 49er Rotary Club of Nevada City, Nevada and the Norcal Dental group hosted a dental care clinic for the indigenous peoples of Baja California. Thanks to a team ranging from professionals to students to local volunteers, The clinic managed to treat a record 62 patients in one day this year.
In late march of 2010 the Rotary Club of San Jose North teamed up with Comunidad para Baja California to survey a site for a proposed medical clinic in Baja California. San Jose de la Zorra is a small village about one hour and a half northwest from the port city of Ensenadad, Mexico. Located in a valley known as Valle de Guadalupe, about 41 familes live in San Jose de la Zorra. The people of San Jose de la Zorra are known as the Kumeyaay (Kumiai in Spanish).

The Rotary Club of San Jose North teamed up with the Boys & Girls Club of Silicon Valley to take a group of almost 200 youth fishing followed by a BBQ lunch. This years event was held at Ed Levin Park in Milpitas. Not only did it rain but it seemed that only one fish was hungry this year. The kids, most of which had never been fishing before, had a blast regardless. The Rotary Club of San Jose North has been partnered with the Boys & Girls Club of Silicon Valley and every year they take the kids out fishing. It is an extremely positive thing to see inner city kids out in nature enjoying themselves and learning about the world outside of the city. I am looking forward to next years Fishing in the City.
