The Wood Technology department’s Carpinteria Fina program at Laney College in Oakland, California combines English language (ESL) skills and real world technical skills in wood-working. The program focuses on technology in the field, computer skills, the paperless work environment, production, and digital design proficiency. The Wood Technology department offers the two-semester program in a state of the art wood working facility located in G-151.

Ericka Huggins is an activist, former political prisoner & leader in the Black Panther Party. Her life’s work has been to bring equality to all regardless of age, culture, class, gender, sexual orientation or ability.
On February 23rd she spoke to students at Laney College in Oakland, California.
The focus of the discussion was women’s issues and the social forces that create these issues.
The room was packed and limited to standing room only. The discussion was very engaging with Ericka Huggins calling on students to voice their opinions and experiences.
After the discussion Ericka Huggins took some time for q&a from the students about her time with the black panther movement.

Vanessa Vo, a Emmy Award winning musician, presented Vietnamese music played on traditional instruments at Laney College in Oakland, CA. Accompanied by Jason Song, percussionist, and Song-My Tran on the piano and “Dan Bau”, Vanessa Vo put on a stellar performance. Presenting not only traditional songs, but also the traditional instruments on which they have been played on for generations.
